The use of alcohol or drugs may adversely affect the ability of a person to work in a safe manner. Employees are often working independently with equipment or materials that, if not handled with proper care and attention, could pose a threat to the safety of the worker, the workplace and the property at the workplace.
Some of our worksites have been deemed safety sensitive locations and therefore site-access/pre-access testing is required. Prior to departing for a safety sensitive location, both a negative express (urine) Drug Screen and Breath Alcohol test (breathalyzer) are required. Access to the worksite is denied pending confirmation of all non-negative results. All non-negative drug screens will be sent to Gamma-Dynacare Laboratory for confirmation testing.
All positive breath alcohol tests will be confirmed by an evidential breath test.
Alcohol testing is in compliance with industry standards set by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the ENFORM Alcohol and Drug Policy Model.
Drug testing is in compliance with industry standards set by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and confirmation testing is conducted by a laboratory certified by the U.S.Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). HHS standards have been adopted by the Standards Council of Canada. Since 1998, SAMHSA has been responsible for certifying laboratories in both Canada and the US. The process is also in compliance with the ENFORM Alcohol and Drug Policy Model.
